How to make a Christmas Wreath...

Deck the halls

Tis the season to be jolly...fa-lalallalalla...or something to that effect.

Let’s face it funds are tight but Christmas is coming. Here’s one way to deck the halls without the money!

Rob a hedge row: • Holly and ivy are in abundance; grab some scissors and marigolds and head got your nearest hedge row.
• Cut lengths of each about the length of your forearm and head home before someone gives out to you (they always do).
• Before going inside give your bounty a shake to get rid of creepy crawlies.
• Take a wire coat hanger and pull it at the top and bottom to create diamond shape
• Take your holly and ivy and wrap them around your wire diamond.
• If you happen to have fake snow or gold spray (you can get it in hardware/€2 store) take your diamond outside and lightly spray/or if you prefer go crazy and make it bling!
• Now’s the bit where you get inventive, once the paint is dry, get some red ribbon and borrow some baubles from your tree, tie on cinnamon sticks and anything else you have around the house that can be classed as festive.
• Ta da! Your very own Christmas wreath.

Caution – in Ireland wreaths have a tendency to be stolen by the wind. I recommend nominating the person who does the least housework to stand outside and ensure that the wind is defied.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New year

The National Concert Hall have something for every member of the
family this Christmas Season. The highlight of their Christmas
Concerts as always is the traditional Snowman Movie.

The Snowman was originally a children's book by English author Raymond
Briggs, published in 1978. In 1982, this book was turned into a
26-minute animated movie by Dianne Jackson for the fledgling Channel
4. It was first shown on Channel 4 late on Christmas Eve in 1982 and
was an immediate success. The film was nominated for the Academy Award
for Animated Short Film in 1983. It has been shown every year since
and has become a part of Christmas popular culture.

The book is wordless, as is the film except for the song "Walking in
the Air"was written specially for it and performed by a St Paul's
Cathedral choirboy, Peter Auty.

Designed for all the family, Raymond Briggs’s captivating film has
established itself as part of the Christmas festivities for young and
old, accompanied by Howard Blake’s score played live by the Orchestra
of the National Concert Hall. Suitable for young children, this is an
opportunity for the whole family to share the magic of Christmas.
Featuring Walking in the Air, and a selection of popular Christmas
Songs, bring your jingle bells, wear your fancy dress, and make sure
you book early as last year and every year this show sells out!

Liven up your Christmas!

Don’t let the R*******n get in the way of Christmas...Fun costs nothing!
Let’s be honest there are parts of Christmas that can feel a little like ground hog day. There may even be times when you’re dying to get out of the house but everyone else has collapsed full of food and to make matters worse they’re insisting on watching the Corrie Christmas special! Well, if there’s one way to liven up Christmas it’s this game.
I learnt to play this game years ago at a friend’s housewarming party. Since then I must have played it at every birthday, New Year and Christmas gathering I’ve attended (I would just like to add that it wasn’t always my idea to play it). This is the type of game that is easy to play, costs nothing and more importantly is a good hoot!
Since I’ve taught it to pretty much everyone I know it became known as Becky’s Game though I would like to state for the record that it’s Ariana that should take the credit; thank you Ariana.
For Becky’s Game you will need: • At least four players • Pens or pencils • Scrap paper (wrapping paper will do) torn into raffle ticket size pieces • A container e.g. hat, bowl, empty quality street tin • A timer (most mobile phones have one now) • Piece of paper to keep score on • A trusted score keeper (duty can be shared so that score keeper can play too)
Ready to start:
Turn on Christmas fm for some musical atmosphere :)
• Each player needs an equal amount of paper pieces. Ask each player to write down names of Famous people (dead or alive) on the paper pieces – don’t tell each other the names not even your team mates. • Fold up the paper pieces and put them in the container, give them a bit of a mix. • One player plays at a time, they get 30seconds to get their team to guess as many names as possible. • Each team takes it in turns to have one player doing the describing. • If your team can’t guess put the name back and describe another one. • Each round is over when there are no names left to guess. • Each round starts with the next player in order (So if Team-2 guesses the last of round#1 then Team-3 starts round#2) • There is 1 point for each name guessed correctly.
Aim of the game: There are 3 rounds in each round the aim is to get your team to guess as many correct names of people who you are describing. In round one you can use as many words as you like to describe (except the person’s name of course). In round two you can use just one word In round three none...just mime.
Enjoy, and have a very merry Christmas.
